Curriculum for Excellence
The Curriculum for Excellence was introduced by the Scottish Office in partnership with Learning and Teaching Scotland, the Scottish Qualifications Authority and Education Scotland and aims to provide a coherent, flexible and enriched curriculum for all children from 3 to 18 years old.
The curriculum aims to ensure that all children and young people in Scotland develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in life, learning and work.
The 4 capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence help children become:
- Successful Learners
- Confident Individuals
- Responsible Citizens
- Effective Contributors
There are 8 curriculum areas which all contribute to the 4 capacities above:
- Expressive Arts
- Health and Well-Being
- Languages
- Mathematics
- Religious and Moral Education
- Sciences
- Social Studies
- Technologies
The curriculum is not timetabled or structured; our staff plan quality activities and experiences and ensure your child has access to good quality resources to meet their learning needs, whilst considering the 4 capacities and 8 curricular areas above.
The focus of the curriculum for excellence is on literacy, numeracy and health and well-being which is embedded throughout all activities and experiences the children participate in.
Pre-school Room (3 to 5 Years)
In the Pre-school Room your child will have the opportunity to experience a range of activities and experiences which meet all areas of the Curriculum for Excellence. All activities are delivered in a fun, relaxed manner allowing all children to learn through active play. Each child is encouraged to learn at their own pace within their own capabilities.
Doors to the garden give children from the Pre-school Room full access to the all weather play areas and the nature garden so they can enjoy fresh air and exercise on a daily basis. Children are given the opportunity to enjoy ‘free-flow’ play between the gardens and the playroom when they can choose to enjoy activities either indoors or outdoors.
Your child will have access to a range of activities while in the pre-school room at Hoodles Nursery: Arts and crafts, computer and IT resources, construction toys, sand play, water play, role play, puppets, stories, books, rhymes, music and movement, musical instruments, baking and cooking, planting and growing, library visits, music lessons and lots more!
